Year One in the Books for Harbor’s Youngest Learners

The second of many educational milestones is complete for kindergartners at Seaford Harbor Elementary School. There was the first day of school in September and now, 10 months later, they have successfully completed their first full year of school.

Harbor’s youngest learners were in the spotlight at a moving-up ceremony on June 18. While they will be returning to the same school in the fall, it was an accomplishment worthy of a celebration because of how much they have grown both academically and socially since that first day.

Proud parents filled the all-purpose room for the special moment, which included a musical presentation. Among the vocal selections were “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “One Small Voice” and a school-themed parody of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.” Children practiced the songs for about a month so they were prepared to dazzle their families.

Students then donned green caps with gold tassels, and each of the five classes came up to the stage and stood under a rainbow balloon arch to be recognized. At the end of the ceremony, each child got a certificate and copy of the book “We Don’t Eat Our Classmates.”
