Seaford Manor Elementary School students picked up some valuable safety tips from the local experts as members of the Seaford Fire Department visited for their annual Fire Prevention Month presentation on Oct. 5.
The fire safety trailer was stationed outside of the school for the day and each class went inside to meet with Seaford firefighters. Children learned about home fire safety, such as having working smoke detectors and an escape plan. Instead of exiting the trailer through the door they went in, they instead left through a window, aided by firefighters. This emphasized the importance of knowing two ways out.
To show children that firefighters are there to help, they got to meet some local volunteers in full gear and even were allowed to try on gloves and helmets. A big red Seaford fire engine also delighted students.
