Vikings Excel in Academics and Athletics
Seaford High School has been named a Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence for its high level of academic achievement among student-athletes. It was one of 140 schools in the state to receive this recognition from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.
Students are named scholar-athletes for maintaining a grade point average of 90 or higher during a competitive athletic season. Scholar-athlete team recognition is awarded when the team’s average GPA for 75% of the roster is at least a 90.
To earn the School of Excellence Award, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must receive the Scholar-Athlete team designation. For the 2019-20 school year, schools were awarded based on the fall and winter seasons only. At Seaford High School, 13 teams met the criteria including boys and girls basketball, boys and girls bowling, cheerleading, boys and girls cross-country, field hockey, boys and girls soccer, girls volleyball and boys and girls winter track.
“Congratulations to our student-athletes, whose hard work and dedication brought Seaford High School recognition as a NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence,” said Kevin Witt, director of physical education, health and athletics. “The commitment our athletes made, both in the classroom and on the playing surfaces, have made everyone in the Seaford community proud. Go Vikings!”
