Seaford Athletes to Join Elite Company
Only 7% of high school athletes go on to play at the collegiate level, and eight Seaford High School seniors will be among them. Kevin Witt, the director of physical education, health and athletics, announced that statistic at a National Letter of Intent signing ceremony in the auditorium on Nov. 14.
District and building administrators, coaches, guidance counselors and family members were on hand to share in this milestone accomplishment. The eight athletes will be attending colleges on Long Island and throughout New York State.
Two students committed to play multiple sports in college, including Hailey Galison, who will join the bowling and field hockey teams at St. Thomas Aquinas College, and Jessica Kofod, who will don the deep red and white for Molloy College’s field hockey and lacrosse teams. Ally McMahon will play lacrosse for Mercy College and her teammate Grace Pupke will take her talents to Hofstra University.
Three players from the baseball team committed to college teams including Nick Barreiros (New York Institute of Technology), Joseph Cain (St. Joseph’s College) and Frank Cozzolino (St. Thomas Aquinas). Jason Rebaudo will play lacrosse from Molloy College.
Mr. Witt explained that the signing ceremony was “a very special day” for the athletes who successfully played multiple sports while also succeeding in their academics by taking rigorous courses and maintaining good grades. Their intense commitments in high school, he said, have prepared them for success at the next level. He also took time to recognize the many people who have helped the students achieve success including their parents, teachers, coaches and guidance counselors.
