Coaches Earn All Long Island Honors
Two Seaford High School coaches were named to Newsday’s All Long Island Team for the winter 2018-19 season. Berto Cerasi was chosen as Coach of the Year in bowling and Lisa Ferrari earned Coach of the Year honors for cheerleading.
Mr. Cerasi coaches both the varsity boys and girls bowling teams. He has been the coach since the program began three years ago. This year’s boys and girls teams had identical playoff success, with both earning county titles in Division 2 followed by fifth-place finishes in New York State.
He is one of only two bowling coaches in Nassau County to lead both the boys and girls teams. Mr. Cerasi said the fact that the program is still relatively new doesn’t matter to himself and his players, as the focus is on winning matches. He credited the success of both teams to the hard work and dedication of his players, as well as the enthusiasm from their parents.
“The award I got is a reflection of the team and the support from the families and the community,” he said.
Ms. Ferrari has been the head coach of the varsity cheerleading squad for 11 years. The team was undefeated during the regular season, won the Division II county championship for the third year in a row and placed third in the state championships. The team ended its season by competing in national tournament at Disney World.
She said that it was humbling the receive the award and to be recognized for her coaching ability, but that the true credit belongs to her “fantastic athletes.”
