Seaford Music Alumni Share Their Successes
Graduates of Seaford High School, who distinguished themselves in the music program, returned to their alma mater to speak to current members of the Tri-M Music Honor Society on Dec. 3.
The first music alumni day featured graduates from as far back as 1973 and as recently as 2018. They discussed ways they have kept music in their lives since high school. The speakers were Alyssa Armour, Nick Coacci, John Goess, Matthew Ho, Jacob Nycz and Dan Weber.
While some of the graduates pursued careers in music including in education and performance, others made it a hobby by playing with church or community ensembles. They spoke about their experiences in the Seaford music program, and both the challenges and rewards of being musicians. Tri-M advisers Chris Coniglio and Anthony Romeo said the goal was to inspire current students and show them ways to pursue music in adulthood.
Tri-M President Katie Crawford, a clarinet player, said that while she doesn’t plan to major in music in college, she still wants it to be a part of her life after high school. She said it was an honor to hear from alumni who have pursued it in different ways.
“No matter how long ago they graduated, music is still there for them,” she said. “It is something that can bring people together regardless of what kind of life you pursue.”
Other music department activities in December included a performance by the high school jazz band before the start of the annual Hot Chocolate Run on Dec. 1. The band also played that night at the Seaford Fire Department’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
