Summer Workshops Get Seniors College Ready

Summer Workshops Get Seniors College Ready

Seaford High School seniors are getting a head start on the college application process with a series of summer planning workshops. College Bootcamp features four two-hour sessions in August that focus on the application process and completing the Common App.

The workshops are led by Seaford High School guidance counselors, who provide an overview of all sections of the online common application and also answer individual questions. Some of the areas they review are individual profile, family, education, extracurricular activities and financial aid.

The goal of College Bootcamp is to help seniors prioritize one of the most important processes of their high school career and feel more in control of the application process. By having a majority of the application process complete by the end of summer, they can have a more productive and enjoyable senior year.

Senior Michael Gagliano attended sessions on Aug. 3 and 11 in the high school library. He is completing most of the application at home, so the bootcamp is giving him the tools to navigate the different sections.

“It’s really helpful,” Michael said. “The guidance counselors have a lot of information we need, and are answering our questions.”

Additional workshops will take place when the school year begins on topics such as college essay writing and SUNY application week.
