Standout Bowler Earns Scholar-Athlete Award

Seaford High School boasts one of Nassau County’s best bowlers who also shines in the classroom. Senior Andrew Ceraulo, a five-year member of the varsity team, was named the 2026 recipient of the Todd Heimer Scholar-Athlete Award, presented by the Nassau County High School Bowling Association.

Only one high school boy and girl are chosen for the honor each year. Andrew applied for the award and had to include his high school transcript and record of community service. He maintains a 99.3 weighted grade point average and has taken six Advanced Placement courses.

Selected for the varsity squad in eighth grade, Andrew has been part of five Nassau County championships teams. The team also had back-to-back second-place finishes at the state tournament in the small schools division.

Andrew began bowling at 4 years old. Going to a cousin’s birthday party at a bowling alley was the catalyst, and throughout his childhood he participated in youth leagues through Wantagh Lanes. Since joining the Vikings squad, the accolades have racked up. In his sophomore year, Andrew was the 2024 Nassau County individual champion, then achieved perfection in his junior year by bowling a 300 game in the final match of the year. As a senior, he was named to Newsday’s list of Top 20 boys bowlers.

Even as teammates have come and gone over the last five years, the high level of play remained consistent, Andrew noted. Newcomers to the team, who took the place of graduating seniors, always strived to maintain the level of excellence that is synonymous with Vikings bowling.

“I think my Seaford bowling experience, even though we had two heart-breaking endings, was nothing short of awesome,” Andrew said. “We would always find a way to get back to the states.”

Earning the Todd Heimer Scholar-Athlete Award, Andrew said, is an honor and a reminder that hard work pays off. He credits the support of his teammates and coach, Scott Nastazio, who always believed in him and put him in a position to succeed.

Assistant Principal Alex Mantay, who was Andrew’s eighth grade algebra teacher, remembers him as a bright, hard-working and determined student, and is not surprised those same qualities led to his success in bowling. After graduating in June, Andrew wants to major in meteorology and join a college bowling team.
