Seaford Welcomes Its New Class of Educators

It wasn’t the first day of school for students, but Aug. 19 marked the first day for nearly 30 new teachers in the Seaford School District. The first-year faculty members gathered in the Seaford High School library for new teacher orientation and a thorough introduction to the district.

After welcoming remarks from Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora and Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Instructional Support Dr. Sheena Jacob, it was time for a long-standing tradition. New teachers boarded a yellow school bus for an hour-long trip around the district, guided by Dr. Jacob. The tour included Seaford Middle School, Harbor and Manor elementary schools, and other notable Seaford landmarks.

This year’s new faculty members will work across the district, teaching a variety of grade levels and subject areas. They were chosen, in some cases, from among hundreds of applicants and went through a rigorous hiring process. Also taking part in orientation were a trio of new administrators, who joined the district in July.

The two-day orientation program included information sessions on curriculum, technology and the Seaford Scholars profile, meetings with their respective building administrators and a welcome from United Teachers of Seaford.
