Seaford Scholars Get a Taste of Teamwork at Middle School
Teamwork was the recipe success as Seaford Middle Schools were tasked with building the tallest and sturdiest gingerbread structures on Dec. 19. It was third of six teaming challenges this year and students enjoyed the holiday-themed quest.
Principal Dr. Raphael Morey said that for each challenge, students are paired with different classmates so they learn to work with other people. The first two teaming events this year were ice cream tasting and pumpkin painting.
For the latest challenge, students worked in groups of three or four to build a tower out of graham crackers and frosting. At the end, the towers were measured and students also tested to see if it could support a tennis ball. Before the building began, students reflected on the successful teamwork strategies from previous challenges, and how those could be applied to the gingerbread tower construction.
The teaming challenges reinforce several Seaford Scholar traits including communicator, innovator, networker and resilience. Dr. Morey said the goal is for them to learn that mastering these traits can help them succeed and achieve greatness.
