Middle School Gives Incoming Sixth Graders a Warm Welcome

Seaford Middle School student leaders welcomed the next generation with open arms on May 29, as fifth graders from the neighboring Manor Elementary School stopped by for a visit.

Fifth graders gathered in the cafeteria for a brief presentation with guidance counselors Sarah Busch and Jack Scaldaferri. They reviewed a typical sixth grade schedule, talked about the exploratory courses and introduced the support systems available for students. Ms. Busch explained that Seaford’s sixth grade program is designed to help them acclimate to the secondary level.

Eighth graders from the National Junior Honor Society then led small groups of fifth graders on tours of the building. They visited the gymnasium, library, sixth grade hallway and special area classes. It was a chance for the fifth graders to have meaningful conversations with older peers who are middle school pros.

“We’re very grateful to our eighth grade student leaders for welcoming the incoming sixth graders, helping them get acquainted with their future school, and setting a good example of a middle school Seaford Scholar,” said Principal Dr. Raphael Morey. “We strive to make the transition as smooth as possible so students come to school in September ready to learn and thrive.”

Fifth graders from Seaford Harbor Elementary School had their visit to the middle school scheduled for June 1. In late August, the incoming sixth graders will also be invited for the summer bridge orientation program, which will give them a chance to meet their teachers and find their lockers.
