Manor Student Commit to Healthy Choices
Seaford Manor Elementary School students pledged to live healthy lifestyles during Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 27-31. They learned about the importance of making positive choices as they participated in theme days throughout the week.
This year’s national theme was “Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free.” It symbolized how every choice someone makes fits into the bigger picture, just like a puzzle coming together. Every Manor student received a puzzle piece with the Red Ribbon pledge to sign. The pieces were then hung throughout the school to show a unified commitment to positive choices.
Dress-up theme days throughout the week included wearing red, pajamas, Seaford colors or gear, and Halloween costumes, as well as donning crazy hats or hairstyles. The PTA hosted an assembly that reviewed the important values of Red Ribbon Week.
“At the elementary level, Red Ribbon Week is about education and prevention,” Manor social worker Jennifer DeMieri said. “We are teaching students the importance of having a healthy body and mind. We are stressing the importance of believing in yourself and staying true to your values. In the Red Ribbon Week pledge, we talk about our support systems and asking for help from all the people who love and care for us.”
