Harbor Assembly Promotes Peaceful Buses

The ride to and from school should be a pleasant experience for all children, which is why Seaford Harbor Elementary School hosted its first-ever Peaceful Bus Assembly on Oct. 8. During programs for grades K-2 and 3-5, Principal Jennifer Bisulca and Assistant Principal Tara Savage reviewed bus procedures and rules.

They were joined by special and familiar guests – several bus drivers of Harbor routes were on stage to help reinforce this valuable knowledge. Ms. Bisulca explained that bus drivers have a very important job, which is to ensure that children get to and from school safe every day. When students are calm, talking quietly and following all of the safety procedures, then bus drivers have the best environment to do their crucial job.

Ms. Bisulca and Ms. Savage explained what a peaceful bus looks like, with children seated, facing forward and their seatbelts buckled, their faces smiling, bodies calm and ears listening to the bus driver. Students were reminded to be courteous to the drivers, greeting them with a “hello” and getting off of the bus while saying “thank you.”

Ms. Bisulca invited students to contribute their suggestions to the bus naming contest. While each Harbor route has a number, the plan is give each bus a creative name that reflects their vision of a peaceful bus. Some past names have included Mindful Vikings and Cool Cruisers.
