District Honors Outstanding Careers and Celebrates the Future

More than two dozen Seaford School District administrators, teachers and support staff celebrated career milestones on June 2. The board of education meeting began with the annual retirement and tenure celebration.  

“It is my thrill and honor to recognize the retirees who have done so much for our district,” Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora said, “and also our future Vikings forever who are getting tenure.” 

Collectively, the retiring educators have dedicated hundreds of years of service to Seaford’s children, with an individual high of 38 years. Each honoree was presented with a crystal apple to symbolize the full arc of their professional journey. A performance of “Dancing Through Life” by the chorus, under the direction of Yvonne Bendzlowicz, was a tribute to the retirees.  

This year’s retiring staff members are David Ammirata, John Berry, Maura Coghlan, Maureen Dolan, Lisa Gagliano, Margaret Girimonte, Daniel Hayden, Carin Hoy, Dr. Andrea Kantor, Thomas Lively, Frank Maniscalco, Ann-Marie Motisi, Anjana Mukerjea, James O'Connell and Lauren Thompsen. 

The tenure recipients included 11 educators who have successfully completed their probationary periods. Each received a green crystal apple that represents growth, strength and the Seaford Viking spirit. The newly-tenured educators are Seaford Harbor Elementary School Principal Jennifer Bisulca and teachers and pupil personnel services staff Krista Ancona, Alexander Becker, Shannon Digney, Alexandra Drago, Marissa Greenberg, Meghan Harrington, Laura Heller, Mayra Myers, Carly Spadafora and Caitlyn Wigand. 

Dr. Sheena Jacob, assistant superintendent for human resources and instructional support, noted that this annual event is a chance to celebrate extraordinary individuals whose dedication, compassion and unwavering commitment have made an impact on the lives of students. The district gets to publicly recognize the accomplishments and service of outstanding administrators, teachers and staff members who continually inspire excellence within Seaford schools. 

The board of education also recognized its first ex officio student member. Seaford High School senior Matthew Kind attended his last meeting and gave his final report on behalf of the student body. He was presented with a plaque, Seaford Vikings gear and a University of Richmond pennant to celebrate his future school.
