Child Development Students Gain Experience at Manor
Two dozen students from Seaford High School’s Nurturing Young Children’s Development class recently visited fourth grade classrooms at Seaford Manor Elementary School.
High school students sat with small groups of elementary students in each classroom and helped them create Valentine’s Day cards. As they engaged in conversation with their younger peers, the high schoolers observed behavior based on Piaget's stages of development.
The child development class is a partnership with LIU and taught by Julia Coben.
Director of Humanities Riana DiPalma noted that the older students were energized and excited to work with their younger counterparts, and it was apparent that the feeling was mutual from the eagerness and exuberance of the fourth graders at each table. The elementary students were left with Valentine's Day goodie bags, and the cards were later donated to the Seaford High School Key Club.
