Manor Students Delve Into Seaford Scholar Traits
Seaford Manor Elementary School students are taking a deeper dive into the 10 traits of the Seaford Scholar profile.
Social worker Jennifer DeMieri and psychologist Lindsay Friedman have been meeting with classes to provide real-life examples of how to put the Seaford Scholar characteristics into action. They focused on being principled in September and being resilient in October.
Ms. DeMieri said common ways children show resiliency are when they learn to tie their shoes and how to ride a bike. They might now always be successful at first, she explained, but they show resilience as they keep trying and eventually achieve success.
Students also learned ways to be more resilient, such as through goal-setting, problem-solving and managing their emotions. The monthly interactive assemblies about the Seaford Scholar traits are then followed up with classroom activities. Teachers also read books to their students that relate to and reinforce the trait of the month.
