Happy Summer. We will see you in the Fall of 2022!
The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' but 'That's funny...'
The science program at Seaford Middle School is designed to engage and challenge students, building upon their study of science at Harbor and Manor. Units of study will follow pedagogy from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), which incorporates the 3-D model of teaching and learning. Students will learn their science content using Science and Engineering Practices, Cross-Cutting Concepts and Disciplinary Core Ideas. A link to these standards can be found here. NYSSLS Middle School.
For the 2021-2022 school year, we have returned to more traditional laboratory activities while still using some of the successful techniques used during the height of the pandemic. This includes the use of virtual labs and simulations as well as hands-on lab activities.
The middle school science program covers four main subject areas: Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science and Chemistry. Information about topics covered in each grade can be viewed using the tabs to the left. In addition to our core science classes, the middle school also offers a wide range of STEM-related pursuits in the Exploratory Courses program (see tabs for more information).
