Instructions for Parents on Home Schooling

Parents of, or persons in parental relation to, compulsory school-age children have the legal right to instruct their children at home. If a child is being educated at home, the local school district (LEA) must be assured that the child is receiving instruction in certain required courses/subjects and the mandated hours.

If you reside within the boundaries of the Seaford School District and are interested in home-schooling your child(ren), below are links to the New York State Education Department Regulations 100.10 Home Instruction along with the New York State Education Department's FAQ. Once you have decided, a Letter of Intent must be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Instructional Support. Upon receipt of the Letter of Intent, you will be given instructions regarding submitting an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP). If you have any questions, please contact the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources & Instructional Support. Please note that the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) refers to home schooling as “Home Instruction.”
