Parents' Right to Know

As Required by The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)] and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)]

Under the "Parents' Right to Know" provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), you are entitled to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teacher(s) and support staff. Should you wish, you may request details about the following:

  • Whether the teacher has met state certification and licensing requirements for the grade level and subject area they are teaching.
  • Whether the teacher is working under an emergency or provisional status where certification or licensing requirements have been waived.
  • The teacher's undergraduate major, any graduate certification or degree they hold, and the field in which they are certified or have earned their degree.

In addition, you have the right to receive information on your child's performance in State academic assessments, which is typically shared through a mailing once results become available.
