7th Grade Family and Consumer Sciences
In this class we will discuss the importance of choosing a good career. Research will be done on various careers and what it takes to be successful at them. Students will also learn how to get a job and the age requirements and limits for them while they are in school. Students will then learn about money management. Once they know how to make money they should know how to manage it well so it will be there when they need it. After that we learn about consumerism. Teenagers are most often the target of advertising campaigns. That is why it is so important to understand what companies do to try to persuade people to buy products they sometimes do not even need.
Another life skill students will learn about is fabrics and how to care for them (laundry!).
Finally students will learn kitchen safety skills and food preparation techniques. They will then be able to prepare many recipes using these new skills.
