  • SINGING QUIZ 11/26-11/30 and solo audition extension

Posted by Amanda Ferguson on 11/20/2018 1:30:00 PM

Sixth graders can audition at Self Help on 11/21 or during lessons 11/27.

Seventh graders can audition at Self Help Monday 11/26 (or, for Part 1, lessons on Tuesday)

Eighth graders can audition at Self Help today or next Tuesday (11/27)

Also, 7th and 8th graders are going to take a singing quiz in lessons next week!

Students will pair up with a partner of the same voice partner, and then they will draw a number to tell them what they'll be graded on:

#1 Hava Nashira, starting at measure 45 (top of page 8) and continuing until the end

#2 Nutcracker Jingles, starting at the beginning and ending at measure 60 (end of "Sugar Plum Fairy" section at the top of page 10)

#3 Nutcracker Jingles, starting at measure 61 ("Dance of the Reed Flutes" on page 10) and continuing until the end

#4 Santa Tell Me (chorus parts only--not solos), starting at the beginning and ending at measure 53 (top of page 11)

#5 Santa Tell me (chorus parts only--not solos), starting at m.53 ("Oh I wanna have him beside me" on page 11) and continuing to end

#6 Stopping by Woods, starting at measure 11 (Letter "B")

Students will be graded with a rubric that gives equal weight to the following: tone, pitch, rhythm, diction, and dynamics

As always, if a student isn't happy with their grade, they can re-take the quiz.

If a student is very shy and would be more comfortable recording themselves and emailing it to me (to be listened to only by me), they can draw their song and then record it at home using the accompaniment on my website.

The piano accompaniment (background music) that will be used for the quizzes is available in the "Sound files for 7th and 8th grade guided practice" section of my website.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns! aferguson@mail.seaford.k12.ny.us

  • Solo auditions are coming up!

Posted by Amanda Ferguson on 11/6/2018 3:00:00 PM

Solo auditions will be recorded during lessons and Self Help the week of November 13-19.

Students are encouraged to try out alone, but they may audition with a friend or two if that's the only way they'd be comfortable performing.

    Here are the available solos:

For 7th and 8th grade, there are THREE solos (Solo A, Solo B, and Solo C) in "Santa Tell Me."

For 6th grade, there is a solo at the beginning of "There is Peace" and for the "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" section of the Bells medley.

    Good luck, everyone!
